About Clothing Items
-
Simple Designs- Compared to the years previous, the designs of the ‘90s were more simple, casual, and practical. The tulip bell skirt was increasingly popular and it was not as crazy as some of the skirts in the years past sometimes containing hoopskirts.
-
Pale Complexion- Pale skin was a sign of wealth because it meant the woman had so many servants to do their jobs that they could stay inside all day and not have to labor in the sun. Women tried anything to achieve this pale look including drinking or applying lemon juice or vinegar.
-
Aggrivating Coesets- The corsets of the ‘90s are longer and tighter, the only advantage is that in 1825 the lacing moved to the front of the corset, so you could control your own contraption. like tieing your shoes, it is always easier to have someone else to do it for you, but it feels better when you do it yourself because you can control how tight the corset would be.
-
Athletic Wear- Women were now starting to get their own clothes to do some tough workouts in. Women now biked, and did other outdoor activites with much more ease than they previously had, but much like anything most people frowned upon it and the active-wear was hard to get.
-
Stiff and Straight Collars- The new style for women was to have high, stiff and straight collars for some unknown reason.
-
Gorgeous Arm Puffs- starting in 1892 having a gigot style sleeves was the in thing. Women would stuff their sleeves from their shoulder to their elbow with cotton or other materials to achieve this fashionable look. Through the ‘90s the sleeves were getting tighter and tighter and prior to 1895 the sleeves were getting shorter, then the sleeves became longer again.
Affects On Women
Women are starting to be able to do things that they would not normally do, for example bicycling. Although fashion has improved for women in this decade, better years have yet to come. Women have to still wear corsets and partially tight and partially loose sleeves. Also, women are still doing painful things for beauty including vinegar and lemon juice consumption and application.
RELATION TO THE DECADE
Nothing in these styles exactly relate back to the decade and have much to do with any history that I could find.
