About Clothing Items
-
Exravagent Hats- Hats were number one in America's trading business. Ever since the colonies had emerged America traded hats with other countries and sold some to people in Britain. As soon as the colonies split from Britain, the United States tried their best to keep the hats for themselves and not share them with Britain to further show their superiority.
-
Flamboyant Colors- Women were brought into an industrial age that included new and brighter colors of fabrics. These bright colors were put on a lighter fabrics which were worn as much of the year as possible with the gecial gowns in style.
-
Annoying Corsets- Corsets, bodices, busks, stays, and stomachers were all words not used very much during this time. Women seemed to take a break from horrible, organ-moving, gut-squeezing contraptions that tied up their waists. A more comfortable grecian style of clothing was utilized and only some out of date people or others that did not appreciate the comfortable style of a corset were uncomfortable during the ‘90s
-
Chemise Gowns- The chemise gown or empire style gown was originally worn by Marie Antoinette. A chemise gown was a dress that looked grecian and like an extravagant nightgown with an extraordinary empire neckline completed with flares of fabric normally made of a lightweight, pastel cotton.
-
Loose Fitting Buns- The 1790s were all about simplicity and a simple bun was an easy way of pleasing people who wanted a woman’s hair to be up all the time. The curly hair adopted from Britain was out by the ‘90s and natural hair was in style
Affects On Women
The dresses in the 1790s were less form fitting and required less corsets. The style of the decade was Grecian and a lot of their Greek Goddess inspired outfits had less constricting parts and therefore made women feel a lot more comfortable. Almost as soon as the 19th century started, the corsets, hoop skirts, and other uncomfortable contraptions came back into style. For this unique decade, women were able to feel natural and that is wonderful.
RELATION TO THE DECADE
citations
Though, the 1790s is close to the beginning of the United States of America, history seems to not have that much of an influence on the clothing styles in the ‘90s. One thing that the new states did that stood out was that they ditched the classic British white wigs and they had a more natural hair style compared to the Europeans.
